TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SCOTT COUNTY ADVANCE REPORTER NOVEMER 21, 1918 P. 1
August 28, 1918.
Mr. Dero Abbott:
Dero Dunk how are you. I am ok and hope you all the same. I don't know how long we will stay here, may stay all winter.
It's as cold here as it in Alaska it is warm here now in the day, This is a pretty place and lots of pretty girls, but they can't speak English.
Well where is Floyd now. I may not get a chance to write home very often now so if you fail to hear from me don't be uneasy about me.
This is a very good place. Duty is harder here than it was on P. I. but I sure am proud we were there. I hope I never see P. I. again and I don't think I will.
I am in a little tent, it gets pretty cold here of a night. I sure am glad I volunteered, for I am seeing lots of country. I hope I get to Berlin before the war is over and cross the Atlantic and come by New York if I make it thru.
I wrote Daisy a card when I was in Japan. When you ans. tell me all the news, so I will close. address
Joseph T. Abbott
A.E.F. Siberia
NOTES: John Thomas Abbott was born on September 16, 1886 and died on August 3, 1957 in Kern County, California. He is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery and Mortuary in Bakersfield, California.
