TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SPECTATOR SEPTEMBER 13, 1918 P. 1
My Dearest Aunt:
I got a letter from cousin, Martha Hamilton, a few days ago and she sent me your address. I had about forgot I had an aunt and had forgot your name. You know I only saw you once and that was only a short while. I sure was sorry to hear of uncles being dead , but maybe he is better off than we are. Well aunt, Fannie. I was wounded slightly on June 24th, but am O.K. now. I haven’t heard from brother Wallace in about a year. I don’t know where he is. I suppose Ed will be over here before long, from what Martha said. The French people sure are good to the American soldiers here in France and there is lots to see here to interest anybody. I have seen lots of real fighting since I came to France about a year ago, but hope to be back before another year. Aunt Fannie, I haven’t been home in nine years this winter and begin to want to see the folks now. I want you to tell all to write to me, for a letter from the folks sure cheers any one. I will close with love to all. I am your nephew.
