TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SPRINGDALE NEWS DECEMBER 13, 1918 P. 3
Somewhere in France,
Dear mother and All:
How is everyone body? I am fine and dandy. It is rainy here lots of the time. I have seen lots of the world since I left the states and think I will get to see some more before long. It is not very cold here yet. I don’t know whether it snows here or not. From the way things look it won’t be long until we are back in the states. I have not learned to talk French yet but I can make them understand what I want.
Well there is nothing to write and you will hear the war news before you get this. I will close for this time.
Your loving son.
Pvt. Elmer F. Ballew.
Co. G. 134th Inf. A.E.F. France.
NOTES: Elmer Felix Ballew was born on August 11, 1891 at Hatfield, Missouri and died on May 22, 1959. His military headstone identifies him as a Private serving in Co. G, 134th Infantry in World War 1. He is buried in the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Arkansas. He was writing to his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Ballew.
