TRANSCRIBED FROM THE HOME NEWS AUGUST 30, 1918 P. 4
Paris Island, S.C.,
August 24, 1918
Mr. Walter W. Raney,
McCrory, Ark.
Dear Sir:
Will write you a few lines this afternoon as I haven’t any thing to do to let you know that I am now receiving the Home News regularly, but I have not heretofore. I had rather get your valuable paper than any other as it gives me the greatest amount of news from Woodruff county.
Paris Island isn’t a very pleasant place and I have been here more than four months, but I think we will be out of here in a short time as the government is going to make an army camp out of this place and will transfer the marines to Great Lakes near Chicago. I don’t know just where I will be sent but will be transferred somewhere and I hope when they do that I will be sent over seas for I want to help scalp the Kaiser.
If all the marines could be permitted to go over there I think we would get him in twelve months or less time for when they force the marines to give up they can say they have done something. Hoping we will have the devil captured soon and that I will be over there to help get him, I am,
Yours Truly,
Pvt. W. B. Barron,
Hdq. Station, Marine Barracks
Paris Island, S. C.
