TRANSCRIBED FROM THE DEQUEEN BEE MAY 10, 1918 P. 2

Dear Friends:
Suppose you think I have deserted but I haven’t. Have enjoyed the articles under “Army and Navy,” so here comes from Camp Jackson.
Everything is moving here. I mean we are moving on the drill making soldiers of ourselves and I think we are most fit to take a peep at a Boche. Am corporal of the guard tonight, and believe me this being up late at night is some job. However, we get a hundred cents a day for it, so we do not grumble. This division is named the “Dixie Division,” so watch out for us later. We go on parade tomorrow and if you could stand on your feet one hour and thirty minutes and watch us go by I think you would go purchase a Liberty Bond. Proud to see Sevier county go over the top on the third loan.
Several Sevier county boys are in France and their letters to us make us want to go. The boys say that we are going to have a reunion when we get back, so you might begin thinking about it, but do not make any preparations, for it will be several days before we come. Must go wake the bugler.
Friend to all,
Corp. Burl Bearns,
Co. Clerk, F. Co.,
South Ammunition Train
NOTES: Bearns is writing from Camp Jackson, SC.
