TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ASHLEY COUNTY EAGLE SEPTEMBER 17, 1917 P. 1
1st Company 87th Division,
Amunition Train, Sunday.
Mr. S. B. Baird, Hamburg.
Dear Mr. Baird:
On behalf of the fifty I want to thank you for what you did before we left. Indeed, every one appreciated it, and they all say they intend to write and tell you so.
Together with the Bradley and Calhoun County conscripts we form the 1st company, 87th Division Ammunition train. That is the address. At present the Y. M. C. A. and similar places are inaccessible to us because it is ten days before we are out of quarantine. This means that we see no one outside of the company and officers.
It might be a matter of pride to the County to know that out of these 130 in the Company there are six Seargents and four of these are from Ashley County–Berry, from Crossett; Denson, from Fountain Hill; Simms, of Wilmot, and myself.
Yours sincerely
Lane W. Blanks.
NOTES: Blanks is writing from Camp Pike.
