TRANSCRIBED FROM THE POCAHONTAS STAR HERALD FEBRUARY 21, 1919 P. 7

Dear Editor:
If you will allow me space in your paper, I will write a few lines in regard to my army life. Hello, Mother, father, sisters, brothers and friends. This is Thanksgiving night and I am not where I was last Thanksgiving. We have had a good time today and I certainly enjoyed it.
I left Pocahontas the 3rd of Sept. and with the intention of giving my life for my country, if necessary. I am glad that I don’t have that to do, but am ready to do my part of anything for old Randolph County. It is my home and always will be, and for that reason I will fight until I die for it.
I have seen some beautiful places in France. I have been at Brest, Olamons and Malicon. I am at Malicon now. Have had lots of fun since I left home and have seen lots of the world and have enjoyed it.
I was sick about two weeks at Camp Pike, and was seasick one day at sea, but outside of that I feel as good as I ever did, so mother, don’t worry for I will see you in the future and of course it will be a happy meeting.
Have been with a bunch of boys since I have been in the army and have seen some of the home boys since I have been in France.
I can’t think of much to write, but I want to thank the Red Cross for the good things that they have done for the boys. And especially do I want to thank the Red Cross chapter at home for the kindness they gave us. Every place we traveled through, the Red Cross was there to give us nice things.
If this misses the waste basket, I will write more next time as I haven’t time now. I am coming home some day.
Best wishes to all from a soldier boy in France,
Private Myrt Blansett
