TRANSCRIBED FROM THE POCAHONTAS STAR HERALD JUNE 21, 1918, P. 4
Dear Star Herald:
If you will spare me a small space will drop a few lines to the dear old home people. It gives me great pleasure to get a paper from home. I love the dear people of Randolph county. Am in the service of Uncle Sam and well pleased with the work.
We have to drill only four hours a day. We get up at 5:10 and have to be in by ten at night. We have a good captain, and we are getting along fine with our drill work. Co. D is a great company. I don’t know how long I’ll be here, but I always want to get the paper. Nevada is a good place but not like home. I love the dear old spot they call Pocahontas for I have many friends in and around there. I hope to receive a paper from home soon.
From a home boy,
Thurman Bly,
Nevada, Mo.
Co. D. 2nd Inf.
NOTES: Thurman Calvin Bly was born in Randolph County Arkansas on December1, 1891 and died on October 19, 1972 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. He is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas. His military headstone identifies him as a Cpl. in the 130th MG Bn.
