TRANSCRIBED FROM THE POCAHONTAS STAR HERALD JUNE 14, 1918 P. 5
Camp Beauregard, La,
Dear Editor:
If you will allow me just a small space I will write a few lines to my many friends of Pocahontas and Randolph county which has been my home for the past fourteen or fifteen years. I have learned to love the people there and think of all of you often.
I have spent eight months in the army and have had some good training, and I am now ready to go to France, and will go soon I think. The boys are all very anxious to go. We will all be glad to go to France to fight for our country of which we are all so proud of, and want to do all we can for her.
A lot of the boys of this company were turned down for over sea duty, and have been sent to other places. Out of this camp there will be about 4,000 to go over. If we have the luck to get there, we will help out a little. Most all of them are from the good old state of Arkansas. She has been made fun of but she has and is doing her part in this great war. I for one, am glad to say that my home is in Arkansas. I hope we may win this war and all come back to our homes soon and find all our friends and loved ones the same as when we left them.
Today we had 10 aeroplanes here. They have shown us how they fight and do many things that is good to look at. The aeroplanes will take a wonderful part in this war. Well as I haven’t any more time. I will close.
With best wishes to one and all.
I am your friend,
Prvt. Richard C. Boyd.
