TRANSCRIBED FROM THE COURIER DEMOCRAT JULY 4, 1918 P. 4
Dear Brother:
I am well and enjoying life. How is everything at home?
We are back from the front for a rest. Don't know anything about when we will go back, but I will say I really like it. It is an interesting place. I am still glad I am here, only I want you to look after my property. The more I see, the more just I think the cause for which we are fighting. In fact I am glad of an opportunity to go out for my country, in the interest of humanity. The thing is, you all in the states, should do everything in your power to help the government to prosecute this war to a successful close. You can take my word for it that the rot they put out there about a rich man's war, and officers staying back, is false. Everybody goes--officers and all.
I guess you are working a large crop this year. I hope this is a prosperous year for you and everybody else in the community.
Rest assured that I am alright and will make it through all safe and sound. Tell Mark to hurry up and come over and we might get together.
You and Rube get some good dogs and train them and when I get back we will go fox hunting two nights a week.
Your brother,
GEO. L. BRAND.
