TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SCOTT COUNTY ADVANCE REPORTER DECEMBER 12, 1917 P. 3
December 2nd, 1917
The Advance Reporter,
Waldron Ark.
Dear Editor:
I am enjoying myself fine. How was Thanksgiving back in Ark? Believe me, we sure had some dinner here: we had all the turkey we could eat, also plenty of pies and cakes and lots of other things and we eat till we almost bursted. I am in the machine gun company. I have not had any drill with the machine guns yet but guess we will get it this week as we were formed into machine gun squads yesterday. There are ten men to a squad. I am No. 2 and another Arkansan is No.1. There is one Dane and one Norwegian in the same squad I am in but they are real Americans just the same. I signed the pay roll last week so I guess I will get a little dough before long and when I do I think I will have you send me the Scott County news for a while.
Love to All,
James A. Brixey
Machine Gun Co. 4th inf.
