TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SHARP COUNTY RECORD AUGUST 2, 1918 P. 4
I have time for just a note tonight. We have been on the move and now we are at our journey’s end. We are in the most beautiful part of France and have seen quite a bit of the country. We had a very enjoyable trip over here and are certainly glad to be in a position to get down to real work again. There is plenty of it here in store for us. We do not know how hard the work is and we are not worrying about that, for we mean to do our best and that is all that can be expected.
NOTES: Bernard Carlyle Bruce was born in Batesville, Arkansas on September 9, 1893 and died August 1975. He is buried in the Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Arkansas. His military headstone identifies him as a 2nd Lieut. in the Air Service in World War I. This partial letter was from Bernard Bruce to his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bruce. Bruce was from Sidney, Arkansas.
