TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SCOTT COUNTY ADVANCE REPORTER APRIL 3, 1919 P. 3
Dear Editor and Readers of the good old Advance Reporter:
I read a copy of the A.R. that was sent to Chas. Martin in Jan. It was a little old but it carried me back to the old times when I would get the old A.R. and lie down in some nice cool place with my feet propped up on something and read about everything that had hapened in Scout county the past week.
"Sunny France" yes the sun shines ever here say once a mo- It rains twenty times every day (some days).
If Uncle Chas. Lowery was over here he sure could build up a big business with the tile drainage.
I was lucky not to see the front. but when the Armistice was signed I was on a frog train going lickety brindle toward the front if you have any doubt about how fast a frog train can run justask some of the boys that have gotten back if they ever rode one down hill. They simply turn all holts loose and fly.
I have seen several old historical places such as Napoleans palace and old camp ground and old the big Cathedral at Lemans but give me old Scott Co. in preference to anything I have seen in France.
Joe McLain and Henson two two more old Scott co boys are here at this camp. Joe has wore she knee of his trousers and elbows of his shirt out siting behind a pile of boxes dodging the detail and watching the checkers.
Don't see much of Henry think he peels spuds in the kitchen.
Don't have any idea when we will get back to the U.S A. but if I ever do the old Statue of Liberty will have to make "about face” if she ever sees me again. As the bean Sgt. is hollering get out for mess I will quit for this time. Would appreciate letters from any of my old friends in Scott co.
