TRANSCRIBED FROM THE FAYETTEVILLE DAILY DEMOCRAT JULY 17, 1918 P. 3
To My Mother
You went into the Valley of the Shadows for me.
You did it cheerfully and with a high courage for Love’s sake.
You emerged triumphant with me in your arms.
It is my privilege to go into the same Valley.
A new world is being born.
That which is conceived shall be called Holy.
I am carrying on cheerfully, Mother
And with your high courage
The triumph is assured.
God bless you.
NOTES: A letter written by Walter Bryan to his mother concluded with this tribute. He was born on June 5, 1895 in Habberton, Arkansas and died on March 9, 1984 in Grass Valley, California.
