TRANSCRIBED FROM THE DAILY ARKANSAS GAZETTE JUNE 11, 1918 P. 2
Since March 21 (beginning of the great German offensive) I have seen some wonderful sights.
I have seen the earth rock so at times that a lighted lantern sitting beside you would go out. I cannot describe things at any length, as it would not pass the censor. We have had much cold, rainy weather lately, but the past three days have been fair and warmer.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Allen Chester Campbell to his mother Mrs. M. E. Campbell. He was born on June 21, 1895 in Texarkana, Arkansas and died on July 21, 1971 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. He is buried in Forest Park East Cemetery, Caddo Parish.
