Dear Father:
Will write again now as I am feeling pretty fine. I guess mother got my letter telling of me getting wounded. I was wounded in the big drive at Soissons the 18th of this month.
Was hit in the arm right on the same old cut. There certainly will be new scars there now. But Dad, it would tickle you to see those Germans yell “Kamerad.” I went about seven miles in the drive before I fell and when I did I brought eleven prisoners back with me. We didn’t mean to take any prisoners, but there were so many of them that we had to save our ammunition.
We made them carry our wounded soldiers back, who couldn’t walk.
I am being treated pretty fine here in the hospital. The Red Cross gives me lots of stuff. Dad, if you give anything to anyone, give it to the Red Cross and not the Y.M.C.A.
Will close, hoping to get another letter soon. Your loving son,
Jim
NOTES: This letter was written by Corp. James Christian to his father, W. V. Christian living near Springdale, Arkansas.
