TRANSCRIBED FROM THE VAN BUREN PRESS-ARGUS, APRIL 12, 1918 P. 6
Dear Mother and All:
I guess you think I have gone crazy, but I have not. I think of you every day and you know I love you all, and don’t worry. The war can’t be fought in a day, so don’t get excited so early in the game. Just plod along and I will come home some day, and be ever so much wiser, for I don’t believe there is anything quite so interesting or would teach me more than the intensive training that we are receiving. All we do is go to some kind of a school from morning till night and stand inspection.
I have not been sick since coming here and this is the prettiest place on earth, so don’t worry about me.
With love to all.
Your Son, James,
Camp Beauregard, La.
NOTES: This letter is written by Sergeant James Cleveland to his mother and family.
