Dearest Mother:
All safe and feeling like a king; arrived Sunday but stayed on the ship a couple of days then took about a 60-hour ride on the train. We had a very nice trip all the way over, no excitement at all only a rough sea for a day which was more fun than anything else for us. I’ve met several fellows here that I knew back in the states but don’t think will get to stay here long; of course, one cannot tell what or where he is going, suppose the next place I will land will get to stay for some time.
Believe me this is one beautiful country, the fields and everything is laid out in squares and in this part there are hundreds of acres of grapes. When you go into a place to buy something you have one good time; give me a place where they speak English. I suppose we will catch on after while. There are lots of good looking ladies over here but at present think I would have a very hard time talking with one.
Suppose you received the card about us arriving o.k. several days ago; will not write much this time as I don’t know just what one can write and want to be sure to have them pass the Censor.
With lots of love
Clarence Conrad
