TRANSCRIBED FROM THE MARKED TREE TRIBUNE MARCH 22, 1918 P. 1
Somewhere in France,
Feb.4, 1918.
Miss Nellie Mitchell,
Marked Tree, Ark.
U.S A.
Dear Nell:
Your most welcome letter received a few days ago and also the box of candy. We don’t get candy like that over here, so you can imagine what a treat it was.
I have been transferred to Co. K. 28 Infantry. The first American Troops to put foot on French soil. I want you to mention it to every one, as some of the other regiments are trying to claim that honor, and it a false rumor Don’t forget to do this for me as it will be a favor to the whole company as well as to me.
With best wishes, I remain as ever
Yours,
Private Chas. Craft.
Remember me kindly to all.
