TRANSCRIBED FROM THE NEVADA COUNTY PICAYUNE AUGUST 1, 1918 P. 8
Dear Mother:
Some time has passed since I have had a chance to write. We got back today, (July 22) and I am glad to get back, as I am anxious toget my mail, as it has been two months since I have had a letter and that is a long time to wait, but the time has passed off faster than you would imagine. We hope to get our mail tomorrow.
France is some place, but nothing to compare with the U.S. You don’t know how to appreciate the United States until you see some other.
I am feeling fine, and hope all of you the same. It won’t be very long before we go back, so write me all the news at once so I will get it before I go back.
Tell Roy will write him tomorrow.
With love to all,
W. F. Daniel,
U.S.S. American car P.M.N.Y.
NOTE: William Franklin Daniel was born in Laneburg, Arkansas on December 25, 1895 and died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 4, 1972. He is buried in the Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. He enlisted on December 15, 1917 and was discharged on September 29, 1919. He was writing to his mother Mary.
