TRANSCRIBED FROM THE VAN BUREN COUNTY DEMOCRAT APRIL 26, 1918 P. 1
Camp Jackson, S.C., April 18.
Dear Mr. Oldham:
Enclosed find check to pay for the Democrat another six months. I don’t want to miss a single issue.
Everything is moving along smoothly with me. I am still Mess Sergeant and am having a good stay here, with time off to see the sights, such as they are. Have heard a number of prominent men speak on Liberty Loan and other topics of national interest, among others being ex-President Taft, Secretary McAdoo, Wm. J Bryan and Charlie Chaplin. Have also witnessed some good ball games between both American and National leagues while touring the south on their “try out.”
Wishing you lots of business and success. I am
Your friend,
Sergt. Chas Davis
Co. “F” 321st Inf.
NOTES: Charles Dinsmore Davis was born in Morganton, Arkansas on May 18, 1892 and died on September 3, 1980. He is buried in the Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, Arkansas. He enlisted in the military on October 15, 1917 and was discharged on July 2, 1919. He departed New York, NY on July 31, 1918 onboard the Scandinavian. He was serving as a Pvt. in Co. F. 321st Infantry. He departed St. Nazaire, France on June 9. 1919 onboard the Manchuria. He arrived in New Port News, Va. and was stationed at Camp Stuart. He was serving as a Sgt. in Co. F 321st Infantry.
