TRANSCRIBED FROM THE PIKE COUNTY COURIER, MARCH 15, 1918 P 1
Camp Jackson, S. C., March 1.
As it is raining, and not on duty, will drop a few lines to my friends in dear old Pike.
We are having beautiful weather now, springtime has come and such beautiful days to drill, and we boys are making good time. Each one has plenty of ambition, and taking great interest in his part of the work.
There was something near 1000 reported to camp last week and expecting far greater number this week.
If each one is willing to do his part, and we see they are from the number that has already answered the country call we will soon win the victory and return home to our loved ones again.
I have been in the service five and one half months and enjoy it fine. I am sure all the boys do after they become acquainted with military life.
Guess I had better close before my letter gets too long. With love and best wishes to all.
Dovie D. Ellis,
22nd Co. 6th Tr. Bn. 156 Dept. Brigsde,
Camp Jackson, S. C.
NOTES: Dove Dozer Ellis was born on August 1, 1895 in Hope, Arkansas and died on January 7, 1978 in Nashville, Howard County, Arkansas. He is buried in the Restland Cemetery, Nashville. His headstone identifies him as serving in the U. S. Army. He was described as being of medium height and stout build with dark blue eyes and lt. brown hair.
