I would like very much to be with my old Poinsett friends around Bethel and Farm Hill. but Uncle Sam probably use me best, and so I will do all that I can to defend the stars and stripes. It is the duty of every able bodied man to do all he can for the defense of his country. I have passed the final examination and don’t expect to be with you again soon, but expect to attend the Kaiser’s death. When the war is over, victors won and Freedom guaranteed I expect to be among those who return and hope to find all my friends healthy and prosperous. I expect to be in France Nov. 1st. and I am going to do my part over there. I am liking the army life very well, much better than I did at first. I will answer all letters that I receive. Wishing you all much success, .I remain as ever.
