Editor Modern News:
Finding that I cannot possibly do without the dear old paper I am enclosing a dollar bill for which send me the Modern News for one year. A sailor boy from Poinsett county without the paper would be entirely lost. I happen to have the fortune or misfortune, whichever you may term it, to hail from Fisher, your thriving little western metropolis, and having been accustomed to reading your paper every week I find that I am very lonely without it. Am finding the U.S. Navy to be the best place in the world for a young man who is fond of a variety of scenery and the different peoples. Here’s regards to Arkansas and Poinsett Co. May her people live long and prosper. I’ll send you the scalp of the first hostile german I wing. Trusting I may be followed through the navy by your excellent paper, I am sincerely yours,
Charles W. Ferrell.
