TRANSCRIBED FROM THE JONESBORO EVENING SUN JULY 25, 1918 P. 4
New London, Conn.,
July 20, 1918.
Dear Mother and All:
How are you? I just came in last night. I sent you a card the other day from Mistic, Conn. I would have written a letter sooner but I haven’t had very much time. I am on the S. C. 187 so I suppose I will be on it for some time. Our base is at Norfolk, Va. I don’t know when we will be back through. I don’t think we will go across. I know you will be glad to hear that but as for myself I would like to make a trip across. I have stayed here until I almost hate to leave now. The people are very nice to us here.
I haven’t told you the good news have I. Well I am a first class quartermaster now.
How is grandma? Has James come home yet? How are the crops? Has it been very hot there this summer? I sure like the weather here in the summer, but I don’t know how I will like it next winter. What is Oben doing I haven heard from him lately.
Well, I don’t know much news so answer soon and tell me all the news.
HERBERT FINDLEY
Address U. S. S. C. No. 187, care State Pier, New London, Conn.
