TRANSCRIBED FROM THE DEQUEEN BEE JUNE 14, 1918 P. 2

Dear Papa:
Haven’t much to tell you. Just want to let you know that I’m safe in a country that I never saw before. Arrived here yesterday after a fifteen day trip from Charleston. We had good weather all the time, but I was sick in bed eight days. Don’t feel good yet, but am up and doing. Weather here has been good today – warm and pleasant. The sun sets at 9:30, dark at 11:30, daylight at 2 a. m. We are due to leave soon for some place much farther from home than we are now. It is in another country that I’ve never seen.
This long cruise gives promise of keeping us away from home a long, long, time, but I hope to get back one of these days. We have only begun the trip.
I hope you received the insurance policies all right. I didn’t want to keep them on the trip. I haven’t received any papers from home in several months. Will you inquire as to whether or not they’re being sent?
You won’t get this for a long time, and will not hear from me in a long time after this letter. However, remember “no news is good news.”
Love to all,
Fletcher
NOTES: The letter was written by Lieutenant Floyd to his father, F. C. Floyd of Lockesburg, Arkansas.
