TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT JUNE 4, 1918 P. 6
Dear Aunt:
I received your letter of the 9th today. I am enclosing a little picture; it is now the last I have.
Sorry I can’t write a longer letter, but I am in a position just now that I can’t. However, everything is fine and dandy. Was never in better health than at present. We’re all dog-tired but full of pep.
Please remember me to any inquiring friends.
NOTES: Lieut. William Ross Gahring was writing from France to his aunt Mrs. B. B. Sterling of Little Rock. He was born on September 19, 1892 in LaGrange, Indiana and died on February 6, 1977, Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is buried in the Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. His military headstone identifies him as a Maj US serving in the Army. He was a graduate of the officers’ training camp Fort Logan H. Roots in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Distinguish Service for his actions during the war.
