TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ROGERS DEMOCRAT JUNE 26, 1919 P. 1
LeMans, France, May 3rd
Dear Joe:
I think I will drop you a few lines to let you know that I am still in France and with a motor supply train. We have motor and auto trucks; do not drill at all. This is a pretty place but not as pretty as the good old U.S.A which is the place for me.
I am feeling homesick and hope to be back by July 4th, but am afraid not. I guess all the boys are home but me. Tell them all hello for me. A soldier’s life is all right if you like it.
Don’t know what else to write so will stop. Ever your friend.
Lee Otis German
NOTES: Lee Otis German was from Oakley Chapel, Arkansas and was writing to his Rogers, Arkansas friend, Joe Smith. He was born in Rogers, Arkansas on February 18, 1896 and died on May 12, 1976. He is buried in the Oakley Capel Cemetery in Rogers. His military headstone identifies him as a Pvt. US Army serving during World War 1. He enlisted on September 6, 1918 and was discharged on July 24, 1919. He departed Brest, France onboard the President Grant on July 1, 1919 and arrived in Boston, Mass. on July 12, 1919. He was serving as a Pvt. in Co. 10 Mech U 1 ASC.
