Dear Bill:
If you all are like the folks, you have been expecting me home, and in fact, I had some hopes myself, but we have just received orders to proceed at once to Wittlich, Germany, and are attached to the 3rd. Army, 7th corps, so you know what that means. It means that we will be with the army of occupation, and will be lucky if I get back this year. It seems that we have been lost here the last two months.
Where we are it has rained every day for the last 3 months except 14, but it is not cold, in fact, not as cold as Beauregard. But the mud is knee deep. I am not regretting getting up there but hate to stay so long, for I believe it will be June before the peace treaty will be signed.
I think I will go all the way overland, and it will be another good trip for it is over 500 miles from here. You can tell my friends not to look for me for several months unless I am very lucky. As soon as I get my new address I will let you all know. I sure am getting some experiences over here and am glad to get a chance.
Give all my love to all my friends.
Yours truly,
Sgt. 1stt Class.
LEV H. GOODRICH.
NOTES: Goodrich is writing to W. H. Anderson. He is serving with the 114th Sanitary Train.
