TRANSCRIBED FROM THE GRAVETTE NEWS HERALD FEBRUARY 21, 1919 P. 1
I am well and O.K. still looking for mail. Several boys have mail forwarded from Contres and St. Aignan that’s why I think mine has gone estray; I can’t help but feel “blue” when I am so long hearing from you and see the other boys getting theirs. I am still at Central Baggage Office. Things are looking more favorable for us now and it is possible we will not be here always; I know nothing for sure, but am more hopeful than I was a few weeks ago. I think I’ll get to go on a Convoy trip next week. The Captain has promised us all a trip When baggage is shipped from here to a port base someone is sent along with it to see it safely delivered. I am anxious to go and see more of the country.
I may possibly get my seven days leave while here and see more of the country and Paris, too. We haven’t had much cold weather here, but turned real cold yesterday and is snowing; February and March are claimed as coldest months here, so we are due some cold weather. Mother, I wish you would send a few copies of the Gravette News Herald, I sure would like to read the news again. Write soon and often.
U.S.H.
NOTES: This letter was written from Gievres, France by Ulysses S. Hamilton on January 23, 1919. He was writing to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hamilton
