TRANSCRIBED FROM THE NEWPORT DAILY INDEPENDENT DECEMBER 17, 1918 P. 2
La Valbanna (Ain)
France,
Nov. 20, 1918
Vernie, Jack and Boys:
How are you tonight? I am better than ever, as you know the war is absolutely over, I am as good as when the war first began, and here’s hoping you are equally as well. I don’t know how long I will be over here, but I guess for several months yet, as it will take some time to get this frog country rebuilt and move the war material back to the states.
I suppose you are all busy gathering your crops. I have not heard from you yet and have only heard from home once. You should have heard the noise over here when fighting ceased. Guess you folks celebrated some too. Have you had any snow yet? We have. It will soon be my birthday and you can bet I’m going to celebrate.
Will close now but will write more soon.
Your Bud,
Edgar.
Cond C. E. Harden, 8th Co., J. C. S., La Valbanne (Ain.) France.
NOTES: Harden had been in the service about four weeks when the Armistice was signed. The letter was sent to relatives in Tuckerman, Arkansas. He was born on February 5, 1893 in Harrisburg, Arkansas.
