TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SPRNGDALE NEWS JULY 19, 1918 P. 5
Dear Father and Mother:
Your letter of May 11th received and indeed very glad to get it as it had been several days since I had heard anything from you. I just received two letters from Coena and she tells me now that she is able to be up some. Sure very glad news for me. I also received several other letters from different ones. Received a very nice letter from Frank Arthur of Sterling, Colo., County Treasurer and Exalted Ruler of the Elks, a very personal friend of mine. I sure enjoyed his letter. He tells me they have the first Elks home started and expect to dedicate it about Sept. 15th. Sure would like to be there for the dedication of it. Received a letter from my old friend R. P. Nifong of Fayetteville, Secretary of the Masonic lodge, sending me receipt of dues for duration of war.
Have not as yet received the paper but hope it will be coming pretty soon. It usually takes papers longer to come through than it does letters. Had a little rain this morning, the first we have had for some time, but it did not rain very long.
Have you received the Stars and Stripes that I have sent you along. Have mailed several. The Stars and stripes affords us quite a bit of reading matter. We get daily papers here that are printed in Paris and we are always glad to get them, as we can find out a great deal of the happenings back in the states.
Intended to go to the Y.M.C.A. last evening to hear D. L. Moody’s son talk but did not get to as something came up about time to go that detained me and when I got through it was too late to go so I took a walk with a friend of mine whom I used to know in Sterling.
Hope this will find all getting along as well as usual. I am just fine and dandy.
Your son,
Mayo.
