TRANSCRIBED FROM THE GREEN FOREST TRIBUNE OCTOBER 5, 1917 P. 2
I have been sent out from Ft. Logan, Colo., to help guard alien enemies while war lasts. We have about 1,000 prisoners to guard. I am either lucky or unlucky, for if I had been sent out with the other boys who went with me from Woodriver, Nebr., I would now be in France, getting ready for the trenches, but mother, I am going to do my best for my country whenever I am sent. This is sure a great, grand place. I am so happy to know that my father and mother are located in the peaceful shadows of the Ozark mountains of Arkansas, while this big war is going on.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Thomas Iams to his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Iams.
