TRANSCRIBED FROM THE BENTON COURIER DECEMBER 12, 1918 P. 2
France, Oct. 26, 1918.

Editor of Benton Courier,
Benton, Arkansas.
Dear Sir:
While serving Uncle Sam oversas, some of my comrades and myself feel we would like to hear from anyone there who would care to write us.
Letters are to us what a big dinner is to the hungry. Hence, no one is barred.
There are numbers of my friends there, whom I believe would be glad to write to myself and comrades, and I wish to give my friend’s names and address along with mine so as they may do so.
The following named parties are given for this time.
Private Guy Johnson, Thomas Foster and Corporal Mallory Frier, all Co. B. Fifth U.S. Eng. A .E.F. France.
I shall be glad to have these receive letters and will appreciate some very much. So if you will kindly publish this letter in your paper I shall be very thankful to you.
I am not able to write you anything pertaining to the service but will say we are doing our bit and while so doing, we think of the U. S., home and friends, and our hearts are with you.
Therefore will be glad to hear from there.
Sincerely,
Private Joe S. James.
Co. B. Fifth U.S. Engrs.
Am. E.F. France.
