TRANSCRIBED FROM THE COLUMBIA BANNER SEPTEMBER 25, 1918 P. 4
To the Voters of Columbia County.
I am now in the Officer’s Training School at Camp Pike, and many may not understand that this will not create a vacancy in the democratic nominee for representative. My name will appear on the ticket at the Nov. election and if elected I think I will be able to get a leave of absence long enough to serve in the next legislature.
However, if my country needs me to fight at the time, I will gladly step aside and continue my army service and let someone take my place who cannot fight. We need fighters worse than we need lawmakers. It is my desire to work where I can do most for the American people.
Very respectfully,
Joe Joiner.
NOTES: Joseph William Joiner was on born August 1, 1888 in Magnolia, Arkansas, Columbia County and died on June 2, 1932 in Union County, Arkansas. He is buried in the Magnolia City Cemetery, Magnolia, Columbia County. He was described as being tall and medium weight with blue eyes and dark hair. His obituary list him as a veteran, a lawyer and a political figure.
