TRANSCRIBED FROM THE MONTICELLONIAN JANUARY 25, 1918 P. 5
Philadelphia, Pa
Jan. 12, 1918.
To my dear mother:
Well, I am at the Navy hall, now, and it’s some cold, here, believe me. I am right on the ocean, now, and am happy, too. I am where I have wanted to be for a long time, and expect to leave any day for France, and that will be better. This leaves me well and hope it finds you the same. No use for you to look for me until the war is over. I am 3000 miles farther away from you than when I left. I have been here 2 days; was on the trian 4 days and nights to get here, and passed through seven states in coming. Am now on the ocean. You know it will be fine to go over the big sea, and, believe me, we are going to get the Kaiser, soon. It won’t take us long, and after the battle you ought to see the big ships and big gun? This is some city, and I have been in all of the big cities now. xxxWell, I guess I will close.
Your son,
T.O. Judkins.
NOTES: This letter was written by Judkins to his mother Mrs. J. S. Judkins living near Monticello, Arkansas
