TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SPRINGDALE NEWS OCTOBER 14, 1918 P. 3
Somewhere on the Waters,
Aug.231918
Dear Father, Mother and all the rest:
Will try and write you a few lines to let you know I am fine and hope you are the same.
Am sure having some great time, have been helping cook all the way across so far. I don’t think it will be long before we will get our feet on soil again and when we do it will sure be some happy bunch of boys.
Will write as soon as I can when we land. Our mail will all be censored on the ship and will be sent back to the States right away, so I thought I would try and drop you a few lines. I don’t think it will be long until we get back but not until we get the Kaiser.
We had some nice weather it rained quite a lot, but the water has not been rough and I haven’t bee seasick yet. The sun is shining and it sure looks great on the waters.
One good thing we have a good bunch of boys in this company, and best of all no company could have better officers. I think the boys are willing to follow them any where.
Well I will close tell everybody hello for me.
Your loving soldier son,
Walter W. Kocheski,
