Our food is excellent. We get potatoes, meats, beans, rice, chicken, cake, pie, coffee, tea, eggs, oatmeal and a general variety of food, all we want, in fact, much better than some boarding house fare. We get lots of drill and exercise to fill out one’s physique. There are about 6,000 men on the island under training.
NOTES: This letter is written by Herbert Lindahl of Malvern, Arkansas to his friend Lawrence Berger. Lindahl was in the yoeman’s naval training school at Newport, R. I.
