TRANSCRIBED FROM THE LOG CABIN DEMCRAT NOVEMBER 7, 1918 P. 6
Editor Log Cabin Democrat:
We thought we would write a few lines about our life in the navy. We have been together during the past few days and are having a mighty good time. We have to drill eight hours a day and the rest of the time we are free to go to the Y.M.C.A. and amuse ourselves by writing or playing games of all kinds. There are many ways of amusing yourself in the navy. We have been boat-riding on Lake Ponchatrain and enjoyed it very much. We have very fine officers and they seem to take a lot of pains with us.
If we make good we wil soon be ready to go to sea. We were first sent to Camp Algeria, La., and then were sent to Camp Nelson, where we will remain until they get ready for us to go aboard some ship.
We would be very glad to hear from our Faulkner county friends.
DeWitt and Emmett Martin.
U.S. Naval Camp. West End, Martin, La., October 28.
