TRANSCRIBED FROM THE POCAHONTAS STAR HERALD OCTOBER 4, 1918 P. 3
Camp Pike, Sept. 18
Dear Editor:
I will try to write a few lines, if you will allow me space in the old home paper. I would like to say a few things in regard to a soldiers life. We get plenty to eat and wear, and I also have a good time. We play ball and most every kind of a game.
We are now under quarantine. We have to wash our own clothes, and dishes and make up our beds. Before I left home, I thought it was awful, to have to help around the house, but I am beginning to like it fine. We also clean up our grounds and scrub the bath houses every day or two.
Boys, when you have to come, don’t be uneasy, for you will get along alright. There are hundreds of boys coming in, and hundreds going out every day.
Well dear friends, I would like to write more, but they are ___to call the roll, and I will close. I would be glad to hear from my old friends back home. Best wishes,
A Randolph County boy.
