TRANSCRIBED FROM THE MALVERN TIMES JOURNAL DECEMBER 12, 1917 P. 4
Times-Journal, Malvern, Arkansas
Being in Camp Beauregard at the present will state to the Times-Journal my advice to my friends in dear old Arkansas, which is my native state. Hoping to see this in the paper and wishing you all a Merry Christmas.
Come boys, come; do not delay,
We’re out for the Kaiser, hurrah hurrah.
Victory is ours if we only obey,
Get your training early, hurrah, hurrah.
Come boys, we’re for Sammy today
We’re with our colors, hurrah, hurrah.
We’ll fight to a finish, we’re there to stay;
We’re with Uncle Sammy, hurrah, hurrah.
William Lonnie Matthews
Co. C. 114 Feild Signal B. N.
NOTES: Matthews was born on December 20, 1892 and died on October 8, 1978. He is buried in the Ouachita Cemetery in Donaldson, Arkansas.
