TRANSCRIBED FROM THE PINE BLUFF DAILY GRAPHIC OCTOBER 29, 1918 P. 3
Dear father,
I just thought to write you a letter on your birthday. I want to thank you as your son, for the father that you have always been to me, the best father that a man could wish for. I want to thank yoh for the gift, of a clean, strong and vigorous body that can serve America in her needs.
Most of all I want to thank you for the long years of self denial that made my education possible for the guidance and teachings that kept me straight through the days of my youth, for the counlil ever freely given when asked, and for the noble example you set forth before me.
I surely hope that I will be home to help you celebrate your next birthday. May the coming year bring to yiu wider fields of service and strength to perform your work, and in the peace, contentment and great rest, a soldier of the U.S.A. salutes you.
Charlie
