TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SCOTT COUNTY ADVANCE REPORTER JUNE 12, 1919 P. 1
May 12 1918
A.P.O. No. 740
Niedermendig, Germany
Dear George:
How are you all today. I am all O K. and getting along just fine.
Was in Andernach yesterday took a boat ride and went to Coln also to Boma first of the week lots of fine sight to see on the Rhein.
But I am in Niedermendig at present going to Bungbroke this afternoon. A train load of trooys passed through with (40 cars) going to the coast, and then are going to sail for America. I understand the 3rd Division is billed to sail sometime in July, that is if they sign peace and that is one thing they have got to do is sign it. Believe me July can't come any to fast to suit this chicken. Was at a good ball game Saturday at Brohl and our company was the winner. Had a letter for old Hue Gaines last week and the old boy is all O.K. and enjoying life ----, except he writes like he is a little homesick. Also he said that he was getting lots of Rhum, Beer, wine and Snop to drink of course you know
that he don't like nothing to drink.
Old Jim Bell is as fat and saucy as ever.
What’s the news around home these days? We got paid last week, and was paid of in German money. I received 355 marks that $27.40 in our money but I have learned a new game since I have been in the army and have a nice little pile of it.
Well believe me things are high over here. Eggs 10c each Candy choclate $5.00 that’s German prices.
These Dutchmans ware eating stuff that is shiped from American and they are well pleased with it.
Heres Jim B now, he says here “come and go with us, we are going doen to get a drink. We buy our drinks from girls over here.
Well George must close and go get something to eat and drink so let me hear from you.
