TRANSCRIBED FROM THE BENTON COURIER MAY 9, 1919 P. 10
Clemeny France, April 1, 1919.
Mr. William Albright,
Dear Old Pal:
Will answer your letter that came to hand. Was sure glad to hear from you again. Well, kid it has come time for us to make another move and the good part about this one is that I think it will be towards home. We are as busy as a city cat getting ready to leave here. Say, Kid, is my girl sick, or what is wrong? I have not heard from her in several days and it has been three months since I have heard from Ada. I have just received three letters from her since I have been in France.
Say, boy, there sure is plenty of whiskey and beer and wine over here and lots of mademoiselles, also, but their duck Latin I can’t comprehend.
Our sergeant just now came in and announced that the third and second platoons would fall out to parade tomorrow and said they meant something, but say kid, we sure can do that drilling stunt. We can’t be beat in peace or war. I am in the fight squad of the third platoon. Our platoon carried the record before the general a few weeks ago.
Well, Will, that last order calls for some show shining and a shave.
Will not write much this time, but will see you before long if a damned whale don’t sink the ship. So good bye boy tell my girl I said hello. Answer soon.
