Dear Papa and Mamma:
This is perhaps the last letter you will ge tfrom me at his point, our time has come and we are ready for moving “over there.”
I had hoped to come by and say good bye, but it was impossible. I have left for the firing line, knowing that as long as I am away, you will not forget me, and each night I know that you will pray for me. We are anxious to get over and put an end to this war, and we are going to end it in a few months afer we are there.
Remember me to all friends. Tell the boys when I told them I was going to get the Kaiser, they thought I was joking, the time has come, and if they will keep their eyes on the parts, they will find that we are delivering the good. I am in the 92nd Division, always remember the 92nd. I have some Company, and they are well traveled to fight.
Much love for all, especially the Church and Sunday School.
I am your devoted son,
NOTES: Lieut. E. A Morris was one of the first Arkansas African American soldiers to enter an officer’s training school. He was commissioned at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He is the son of Rev. E. G. Morris.
