TRANSCRIBED FROM THE PINE BLUFF GRAPHIC SEPTEMBER 24, 1918 P. 4
Dear Sis:
am enjoying like and like this country fine. The American soldiers and the French soldiers are buddies. We are having a good time now, don’t do anything but eat and sleep and talk to the girls. I am getting fat over here. It is cool enough to be pleasant. I can wear my overcoat and feel comfortable. Tell old Richard I will tickle him to death when I come home, telling him about my rounds. We will have a good time when I get back. Say, I sure have a cute little French girl, she is all right. Tell all the kids hello. Write again soon.
NOTES: This is a partial letter written from France on August 4 by Jesse H. Musgrove to his sister Miss Ellen Schollmier. He was serving in the 116th Infantry, Company E. He was born on November 25, 1892 and died on March 11, 1958. He is buried in the White Hall United Methodist Church Cemetery in White Hall, Arkansas. His military headstone identifies him as a Pvt. in Co. E of the 116th Infantry, 29th Division.
