TRANSCRIBED FROM THE SCOTT COUNTY ADVANCE REPORTER DECEMBER 13, 1917 P. 3
Camp Beauregard, La.
Dear Editor:
I will drop you a few lines this afternoon. We are in La., have been here three weeks today. Our company has been transferred to the heavy artillery and as for myself I had much rather be in the artillery than the infantry. When we first came down here I didn’t like at all, but since I am much better satisfied. We have been under quarantine ever since we came here and haven’t been out much until today we took our hike this morning as usual. We went five miles east of here and this afternoon we hiked over to the Base Hospital about five miles to be examined for the T. B., so you must know we have had plenty of exercise today. We are about eight miles northeast of Alexander, La. This is somewhat warmer climate than Ark., nothing but pine knots and pine trees. I had the pleasure of going over to the 153rd Ark., Infantry and saw most of the Gravelly and Harvey boys. Wishing you and your many readers a merry Xmas and a happy New Year. I am,
A Friend
William J. Oller,
142nd Heavy Artillery.
