Dear Editor:
I will write a few lines to your paper to let my friends know where I am at and that I am all O. K. I am with the Sixth Company, Ft. Monroe, Va. We are at the present time stationed on a little island about a mile and half out in the bay, it is called Ft. Wole, better known as the rip raps. We have been stationed here for about twenty-five days. We are having a good time and enjoying life. We have five and a half hours drill a day. We have one hour artillery drill in the morning and two and a half hours infantry drill and we have one hour instruction and one hour artillery drill in the afternoon. We are expecting to go the France any time but I don't know whether we will ever go or not. We were ready to go once and got orders not to go. There was three companies left here about a week ago they went to Rhode Island, and they are going from there to France. They tell us about every week that we are going in a week or so, but I don't know whether we will go or not, but sure do hope so. I have been here one year and I haven't seen any body yet that I knew there, but I guess that is no sign that the boys there are not doing their part for their country. I hope they are anyway. Well I will quit for this time and if this escapes the waste basket I will write again.
Yours truly,
PVT. MARVIN OWEN.
