Dear Mother:
Well I guess you have thought I would never write. But I have been on the go for a month. I arrived here all O. K. and like the place fine-- that is the scenery. France is the most beautiful country I ever saw. I sure had a very very nice trip across, but I had the pleasure of being sea sick. However, I feel fine now.
This country is a fine place for health. I’m learning to speak French pretty good. Well you have heard about submarines being so thick in the sea. Submarines are just as scarce as can be. When the Kaiser’s submarines see us coming it’s good night mouse, for they know it is time to leave and they go under the water and stay until we are gone.
Mother don’t worry about me, for I am just as safe as if I were in the states and I like here fine, so don’t worry. Tell Lula and everybody I know, Hello, also tell Lula that I will answer her letter as soon as possible.
I don’t know much to write for they won’t let us write you much. Do not answer any letter until you hear from me again. I am going to another station and will write as soon as I get there. Well, bye, bye and lots of love and so many kisses. Please do not worry for I am all right. I can’t tell you where I am.
Your son,
Ben Parham
Some where in France.
NOTES: Ben Cecil Parham was born in Magnolia, Arkansas on May 28, 1900 and died in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 17, 1961. He is buried in Eastview Memorial Park in Vernon, Texas.
