TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ASHLEY COUNTY EAGLE OCTOBER 3, 1918
I have already been in three Camps since coming to England, and am at present in Northern England: have traveled almost from one side to the other: but Great Britain is so small it does not take very long to cross it. I was in London for about two hours, and have also been in Liverpool, York, and Darlington, all nice cities. I am a Rigger now and my duty is working around areoplanes. Think I will have a chance to go up in one, at least I hope so. It is as cold here now as it is at home in December. Tell mama not to be worried over my being here, for I am doing as well as could be expected.
NOTES: This partial letter was written by Joseph W. Pierce to his father William A. Pierce of Parkdale, Arkansas. He departed Liverpool, England on December 1, 1918 onboard the Adriatic and arrived in New York on December 11, 1918. He was serving as a Cpl. in 336th Army Service Squadron.
